Vintage Sampler and Hyacinth Update

Firstly, I'll start with the hyacinth. All the blooms have gone from the first plant, and the others seem to have slowed down a bit. It's still early yet for any other blooms, I just think the first one was eager to see the light of day.

And what do you think of this sampler? Found at an antique fair and I'm trying to work out how to pay for it. I think I'll be hitting ebay with a bit of my excess glassware over the next couple of weeks. I really feel the need to have this piece of art in my house. All stitched by a girl of 9 - makes you wonder how good their eyes were in later life. If I am able to purchase it, I will endeavour to chart it - long term plan, and find out what I can about the stitcher.

Wow. That sampler is awesome. And stitched by a nine year old? Amazing.

What an awesome find! I can't believe such young girls stitched such big, complex samplers (especially because it takes me forever and a day to complete something like that!)

I couldn't even look at your hyacinth 'cause the sampler would barely let me look away (it was a hyacinth, wasn't it?). LOL Imagine stitching like that with poor lighting and none of the really good accessories we have today - it's hard to believe that such young girls did such beautiful work.

What a cool sampler! It always humbles me when I fuss over a sampler stitched by someone so young. I love how they live on through their needlework, though.

That sampler is awesome! I can only hope that someday our own stitching will be treasured as much as that. :)

I would love to find an old sampler behind that. I wonder what story it could tell you about it's maker.
Would it say how she would rush to stitch, enthusiastic and keen, or would she moan and groan as her governess/nurse re-made her stitch stitchers that were too big or a little wonky and not at all ladylike ;-)
If only we could find out!
